Black Friday is November 24th, 2017. Cyber Monday occurs on November 27th.
After Thanksgiving, the holiday shopping rush is on! Black Friday and Cyber Monday are two of the busiest shopping days of the year.
Black Friday has a longer history than Cyber Monday. According to Wikipedia, “Since 1952, it has been regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the U.S.” Black Friday used to be limited to one day, but in recent years, “Black Friday Sales” have begun on Thanksgiving Day, or even start a few/several days ahead of time. Some major retailers have “Black Friday Week” or “Cyber Week Sales.” These types of sales occur both in store and online.
The first Cyber Monday took place on November 28th, 2005, so it is a relatively new phenomenon. It is also economically substantial and tends to focus more on online sales and purchases. “In 2015, Cyber Monday online sales grew to a record $2.98 billion, compared with $2.65 billion in 2014."
Preparation will help you save the most on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Plan ahead. Make a list of the holiday items you really want. Find at least a few retailers that carry your items. Keep an eye on their websites and sales circulars. When you see an item you want at a good sale price, buy it! Sale items can be limited in quantity and can quickly sell out. If you can’t find your item on sale at one store, check another store on your list.
A little planning can go a long way and save you a whole bunch! Happy holiday shopping and hope you get all the items you want at a good price.
