Groundhog Day: Shadow or No Shadow?

“It’s been such a long winter.”

You may hear this quite a lot if you live in a northern climate.  Winter seems to wear out its welcome by early February and many start thinking about the warmer and brighter days of spring.

Groundhog Day is a movie starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell.  The main character keeps waking up to the same day again and again.  Looking out your window at the cold and snow, you might feel the same way in the middle of winter.  Groundhog Day is also a holiday that takes place on February 2.

If you didn’t know, Punxsutawney Phil is a very famous groundhog.  Some say he is mythical.  Some believe he is real.  Every February 2nd, Phil emerges from his burrow at Gobbler's Knob.  If Phil sees his shadow, we’ll have 6 more weeks of winter.  If he does not see his shadow, we’ll have an early spring.

Who’s hoping for a cloudy day? Or a total eclipse?

Many of us appreciate an early spring, but more often than not, Punxsutawney Phil predicts 6 more weeks of winter.  For the optimist, a 6 week prediction means winter is at least half over. So do you see the winter half over, or your driveway half full?

This seems like so much pressure to put on a groundhog, asking him to predict the winter for the whole northern hemisphere.  Or at least for the whole northern United States. No wonder Phil wants to run back and hide in his hole.  Millions will be angry at Phil if he sees his shadow and the poor little guy can’t control if the sun shines in the sky.

I feel sorry for Punxsutawney Phil.  How about you?

Whatever the prediction though, CashCrate wants you to have a wonderful day. Stay warm. Stay inside. Have a cup of hot chocolate, and make some money with surveys.

Happy Groundhog Day everyone, and to Phil, we’re wishing you the best.

I live in the south and although it's quite common for us folks to be able to enjoy 50 to 60 degrees in our winter months after the nice hot summers at 100, it has been a bitter winter here too. December was crazy cold. I have lived all over the states and I have to say I love the snow, enjoy all the winter sports but hate the cold and mess it leaves behind. I am pro-warm weather! lol With all hat said, :) in my opinion I believe Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow and there will be 6 more weeks of winter. Not sure what that will bring us folks here in the south but either way it's all good... Enjoy your evening everyone and Ms Dana I thought this post about Punxsutawney Phil was pretty awesome! Kudos to you and I hope you are feeling better :)... Chow...

I'll always feel sorry for Phil (this is why he pees on the guy who pulls him out). But my mind is elsewhere that day since it is my birthday on Feb. 2nd.
