Halloween Traditions

Halloween is Monday, October 31 2016.

The traditions of Halloween can be traced all the way back to Roman and Celtic Festivals. Trick or treating can be traced back to the middle ages. Poor children (and sometimes adults) would go from house to house begging for food. Children might receive soul cakes (small round sweet cakes) in exchange for praying for the homeowner’s deceased relatives. Trick or treating as we know it today wasn’t really adopted in the United States until the 1930’s and again after World War II. Today, it is a much more joyous occasion.

Trick or treat. Three simple words that mean so much to a child. It’s such a magical night. Children can be anything they want to be: A ghost, a witch, a super hero, and so much more. Kids’ eyes grow wide and the anticipation grows even more when the doorbell is rung. What kind of goodies will they get?

Snickers, Sour Patch Kids, Hershey Bars, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Starburst, Twizzlers, Kit-Kat, Butterfingers, Gummi bears, M&Ms, and more! What a sweet treasure! As the night goes on, the bags get heavier and the children get tireder, but the fun continues until the porch lights go out!

Then it’s time to head home. Spread the bounties all over the carpet so parents can check the candy and kids can see what they got. The only bad thing about trick or treating is it goes by too fast.

From all of us at CashCrate, we wish you a happy and safe Halloween. Keep the porch lights on.
